Deleting a file using Windows operating system does not remove the file contents from your hard drive. It simply prevents you from accessing the file. The sensitive information can be easily retrieved by almost anyone because it is still available on your hard drive's free space. The Erase Deleted Data feature ensures that previously deleted files are removed from your computer beyond recovery, destroying any information these files contained and all the sensitive areas that may contain information about this file, like the Recycle Bin, Files Slack, File/Folder names and properties or Systems log file (for NTFS drives).
